Following a meeting between the two institutions during the EAIE Conference in Liverpool, the Abdullah Gül University and Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO University) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding, as well as an International Student Exchange Agreement.
Having formalized their partnership, AGU and ITMO will be able to collaborate in the fields of joint educational, research and training activities, conferences/seminars/symposia, exchange of knowledge and information, exchange of faculty/research personel/students for study and research…etc.
The signed International Student Exchange Agreement will allow the two institutions to exchange graduate students in particular.
The Russian Nation Research University was founded in 1900 and currently hosts around 12 000 students (11% international) on its urban Peterburgian campus. The research-led institution focuses particularly on:

- Life Sciences and Health
- Natural Sciences

ITMO currently ranks #27 in the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017.
