For the first time this fall, the Abdullah Gül University participated in the BEGIN Group Georgia Student recruitment fair, which took place in Tbilisi, the country’s capital. Although AGU already counts a Georgian national among its student body, it was the opportunity to discover a new country and new market for the AGU International Office, represented at the fair by its Director, Emeric Abrignani.
During the half-day fair, the Abdullah Gül University’s programs and Third Generation University concept was presented to many eager prospect students, half of them hoping to enroll in an undergraduate program, the other half exploring Master and PhD opportunities.
Most fair visitors were interested in Architecture and Business programs in particular and were quite keen on the idea of studying in Turkey. The Abdullah Gül University also offers many programs in Engineering, which were of interest to the students.
The fair welcomed many high quality students, most of which could speak English well. For those having more difficulty with the language, a translator of Georgian and Russian was on hand to assist.
Many students were already preparing to pass the SAT and TOEFL exams, two certificates that are highly appreciated by the AGU Undergraduate student selection committee, along with the ACT. Georgian applicants have the opportunity to apply to AGU by submitting one of the following:
- SAT: a minimum score of 1100/1600 for the Math and Evidence-based Reading and Writing sections combined; as well as a minimum of 660/800 for the Math section alone.
- ACT: a minimum of 24 points out of 36 in Composite including Math and Science
- The Georgian certificate of Secondary Education with an overall score of 4 (Good), or 7/10 (Good) or 5/7 (Good)
- The Attestat with an overall score of 4.5/5
The University’s minimum required score for the TOEFL iBT is 75. AGU’s Graduate Application requirements (for Spring 2017) can be found here (link).
Some of the prospect students were ready to apply as soon as the next application windows opened:
- October 31 to August 1 for Undergraduates (Fall 2017 intake)
- December 12 to January 13 for Graduates (Spring 2017 intake)
Overall it was a well-structured fair, organized by BEGIN Group as part of their Eurasia Tour.
Many Graduate prospects are already waiting eagerly for the opening of Architecture and Business Graduate programs at AGU, as they were impressed by the University, its project and its accomplishments.
The Georgia fair was a successful visit for the Abdullah Gül University, which is already planning to return, as soon as next year. For the next visit, AGU also intends to extend its visit and meet with Georgian High School students.
