AGU International, Tristar Education Turkey international fairs, Lahore

AGU returns to Pakistan

On November 17-22 the AGU International Office returned to Pakistan to participate in the Tristar International Education Fairs for a second time this year. The event, which took the Head of the Office to Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, was a mix of well-organized fairs and high school visits.

It was not only the opportunity to once again meet with new prospect Pakistani students and their families, but also to reconnect with our partners from TriStar Education Turkey.

The high school visits were a very positive experience; the students giving a warm welcome to the universities presenting to them. In each school, the AGU International Office was able to have good discussions with prospect undergraduate students and their counselors. AGU is now on the radar of Pakistani youngsters, families and counselors, as a key option to consider when it comes to moving to Turkey for future studies.

One high school visit was so cheerful that it ended in an improvised Pakistani dance party, involving all Turkish university representatives as well as the high school students!

The students were definitely impressed by the quality of the package offered by AGU and the University’s general affordability. Indeed, the Abdullah Gül University’s unique hybrid model, as a State University supported by a private foundation, offers its students many advantages: the international recognition of credits and diplomas, financial and political stability as well as low academic fees are brought by its State University status, while the AGU Foundation allows the University to recruit renowned international and Turkish academicians, to gift its students with brand new laptops, to offer a high quality campus and infrastructure, as well as to maintain a low student/academician ratio.

All Pakistani students were aware of the competitiveness of AGU admissions but were still motivated to improve their chances to be accepted (for instance by taking additional international exams such as the SAT, ACT, as well as the TOEFL exam).

While the high school visits were focused on meeting prospect undergraduate students, during the fairs it was mostly graduate students that came to visit the university stands. Many seemed ready to take the necessary steps in order to join AGU as soon as possible; which also means preparing and passing the compulsory GRE exam. They were also eager to work on international research projects with our AGU faculty members; their chances of being able to collaborate on such paid research projects being increased by our very low student/academician ratio (3/1 at the Graduate level).

Apart from the students, many local agents also expressed their interest in working with AGU and representing the University on-site, in order to spread information about its unique hybrid and Third Generation model.

The time in Karachi was also used to visit a college AGU had been in contact with for a while: Cedar College; where Emeric, the Head of the AGU International Office discussed the topic of “studying in Turkey”, as well as the University during a one-hour long session. This was followed by some interesting discussions with the students and Cedar College members. During the campus visit, they talked about the future evolution of both Institutions, which have much in common regarding their vision, objectives, progression, curricula, etc.

Finally, this Pakistan trip was also another way to (re)connect with fellow Turkish university representatives. AGU has now become a recognized and respected institution, both in our target markets and among top Turkish universities.

Although short, this second Pakistan trip was very enriching and filled with nice and warm encounters, good Pakistan food, music and landscapes!
